Need help identifying bonsai

Hello,
I got this as a gift and I need to identify it. Here are two pictures. I still can't identify my other (deciduous) bonsai, so if anyone has a clue, please let me know :)
thanks

Omar,

Who keeps giving you these trees and has no information about them?

This is what, the third or fourth one? They do you no favors :P;)

This is either a Chinese elm or a Zelkova. take a look at these two species guides and see which foliage looks closer to yours.

When you get the next unknown tree.... Go to here: https://www.bonsai4me.com/SpeciesGuide/SpeciesIntro.html

...and see if it is there.

I have already linked you to the page of articles on bonsai4me in your previous threads, Please revisit that page as you may want to learn a bit about soil.

Ozgheib,

Your tree is almost certainly a Chinese Elm, Ulmus parvifolia. I am a bit concerned about the soil and pot that it is in. The soil appears to be the usual stuff we have seen here repeatedly. I don't think I have seen a pot like this before. Is it one piece or does it come apart? Either way make sure that water cannot wick back up into the pot.

Please consider re-potting into an appropriate soil-less mix, at your earliest convenience, as described in numerous threads on this forum. Here is a link that should help a bit.

thank you for your help! I do believe it is an ulmus and not a zelkova, as you said.
the pot comes apart. that was just a tray that water can trickle into. I will read more about repotting it and will ask if I have more questions.
:)

Thanks for posting those links, I used to have a bansai that looked very similar but I only recently have had enough time to really study about it, those links are interesting!

So far I have four: a Podocarpus macrophyllus, a Ficus retusa, an Ulmus parvofilia, and an unknown deciduous tree :) The last two are a gift from friend who picked them up without asking about them. I don't have space for plants anymore, as I also have 5 other plants occupying my tiny apartment. But I've developed a passion for bonsai, which I hope I will nourish with expertise as years pass by :) I am very tempted to cut off an out-of-plane branch from my Podocarpus to preserve its shape, but I'm hesitant about it. I've only had it for about a month now, and it seems to be growing very fast; lots of new growth is appearing and I'm not even feeding it. I'm not feeding any of my other bonsai for that matter. Any thoughts?

thanks
