mini golden gate ficus questions

I'm growing a mame mini golden gate ficus from Meehans and have taken many cuttings from it to start new trees.

any suggestions?

my question is any one tried fusing or grafting this onto a regular sized golden gate ficus macrocarpa with larger leaves?

Can I expect to see new leave size to be some in between size or will it put out both types of leaves?

The scion will continue to grow as it has, while the stock tree will continue to grow as it has. There's no DNA swapping in grafting.

roger that. Jerry Meislick's book show's examples of master's doing free grafts all over the tree to reduce leave size though. If the tree wil put out 2 different sized leaves even after grafting then what's the point of doing it?

I don't have the book, so I don't know what you're referring to.

I think you misunderstood Kdodds' point. Yes the understock is still the same and yes the scion material will always be the same. It's up to the grower to manage the graft/s properly.

For instance, a Japanese Maple seedling grafted with a Bloodgood scion will be Bloodgood from the graft upwards but sometimes the rootstock tries to 'make a comeback' it's up to you, as the grower, to prune away any suckers that might arise from below the graft union.

I imagine it would be the same with a tree that has multiple grafts replacing all the original foliage. If the portions of the trunk that remain understock would throw a shoot, it would be removed.

No, I understood what he said eventhough English isn't my 1st language but I'm also bringing to his attention that there's information in Jerry's book which gave me the ideas.

The info you said about Maples is a good one. I see 2 different leave types on the same tree in Home Depot and Lowes, as well as in a neighbor's yard.
