Re: did your Chinese elm come out of dormancy yet?

So it is now 4/23 and I live in zone 7. My chinese elm doesn't appear to be budding at all. I've scratched the bark high up on the tree and it's still green. Anyone else in zone 7 still have a dormant chinese elm? I'm really starting to wonder if the past winter killed the tree.

Last year it budded out on 4/17 so it was pretty late...I may be well into May before I start seeing growth. Is that normal for C. Elms?

Bertoman,

You and I got the late sleepers last year. Mine started popping last year on 4/20 but this year nothing yet but I have moved into a new home and I planted it in the yard last Sept. This year the top half of the tree has gone crisp and snap off easily with my fingers so it's a junk shoot at this point if the bottom will ever wake up. If I get any luck I'll report it here. Good luck with yours!
