arial roots

Is there a way to make a plant drop arial roots? I was told by a club member that you can scar a plant(this has to be a plant that drops roots) then use a straw ro force an arial root to form. Anyone hear any thing like this?

Certain trees throw aerial roots easily - banyan figs are common examples. It you read the Ficus (fig) books and articles you will see this method mentioned, usually with instructional photos.

Check Jerry Meislik's site - www.bonsaihunk.us
And see this page from his extensive listings -

Thanks I read those articles. They are very informative, looks like my club gave me junk advice again. :x hate that. I wonder if you can use a similar method to air layering. Its on a schaflera(sp). Or I'll just wet the bark.. -wall-
