I've had my bald cypress for about 2 years now and I cannot get it to grow any branches. The tree was started from a branch cutting and I bout it online. It grows foliage every year but the twigs they grow on always fall off in the fall. The only real branches that have grown are all growing upward at the top of the tree. Is there anything I can do to help the tree develop branches?

Tom,
In the past, I too approached my fertilization in a fairly haphazard fashion. In recent years however I have been much more diligent and have been rewarded by more vigorous and consistent growth. I vary my fertilizing between a balanced water soluble chemical fertilizer about every 10 days and a homemade organic cake that dissolves slowly. Certain trees also get an acidifying formula a few times a year.

I agree, remember that if your tree is potted in a relatively free draining mix and watered regularly then any nutrients will be leached out fairly quickly. It is up to you as the grower to maintain appropriate levels of nutrients.Though I have never set up a plan of when I will fertilize, I found myself fertilizing whenever it was convenient for me. Maybe if I fertilize once a week the results would be better.
