Bonsai Shopping Trip

Well, back from the city, came home with...3 black pine seedlings (At least 5 yrs before they'll be ready for anything, another trident maple, a pieris (Again), and a red Jap maple, I wasn't going to get the Japanese maple, however the sales asistant pointed out to me that they were hard to find, and would all probably go by the end of the weekend, so I got talked into it (Not too hard a task  ) Oh and another ceder, I don't know why, I just liked the look of it!

Oh and a couple of bags of comercial bonsai potting mix, One from the top end of the market, and one mid range, I'll take photos tomorrow when I pot out my new trees.

Flowerpot purchased that one when I was there, I think she was worried that I was going to cut those branches off  She was very nervouse after I'd had at some of her other trees!

She wouldn't even let me repot it! Just because I'm pruning happy?

LOL- Pruning is a part of the journey. 8) You don't get anywhere in bonsai without it.

[I suffer happily from 'prunitis' also! 8) ]It is in a monster of a pot!
I am betting you had the right idea, That guy needs some wire for some movement, A couple of seasons of pinching and I would lose completely that left hand side branch unless an apex could be fashioned from it.[The whole 'T' concept does nothing at all for the tree IMO.]

i was also going to suggest removing the left side, maybe you could make a jinned apex (if that makes sense?possibly...although it doesnt look like that could work..just a thought, putting it out there), or loose it completely. and wiring would also help.

We really could use a better picture, A virt may be possible

It's hard to tell Joe but I don't thing there is sufficient trunk mass for anything like that. [Besides the fact that Colin Lewis is a tough act to follow.]
Why not give her something to go on from what is there?

well obviously she doesnt have the mass, but the position of the jin is really what i wanted her to see.

I took these photos two years ago. They're of a bonsai exhibit by the San Francisco Bonsai Society.
