I bought a Ligustrum from my local Flea Market.
It looked like it had potential.
It had more roots in this 1 gal. plastic pot than soil.
So I did a good amount of root pruning but my only problem was that I had no appropriate pot to put it in.
I put it in a pot that is about 7in and 4in wide.
It is about 1-2ft tall.
Did leaf pruning too.
My questions are:
Should I have put it in a bigger pot?
Is too much root pruning bad for this type of plant?
Is over-watering or under-watering harm the plant?
Any other information you can provide me with is nice.
Will take a picture in a few minutes or tomorrow morning.

Justin,
I have done some work with common Privets and it is typical for them to need to be re-potted and root pruned every year, at least that has been my experience. I have pictures of the process in this thread so you can see for yourself just how drastically I root prune this species.

Without seeing the tree it's hard to tell if it's under potted. A lot depends upon the level of development it's at now and where you want to go with it. If it needs a lot of work an unnecessarily small pot can slow you down. But don't fret too much, it will likely need potted again next spring anyway.

I didn't do as drastic as you did Norm, but I felt like I did too much because the plastic pot it was in about about 10in and I took it out and cut it to almost 2in.
I also took some pictures:
The pot is 4in high, 5in wide.

The trunk is about 1/2in

I did slight pruning

Whole view. Bought pot and plant for $8.50 . Looked almost exactly like this.
