was given a bonsai tree

We were given a bonsai tree and the owner told us that it was placed by a heater and it had dried out and the needles on it are almost white. So since I know nothing about bonsai trees but a lot about plants I came home and gave it fresh dirt with fertilizer in it and I cut the root ball in half and have been watering it daily a little at a time. The tree has soaked up the water and now the needles are a light brown but they are still brittle and break off easy. I guess my question is, 1. IS this tree to far gone? 2. Can it be saved?
Its a shame to see it die its so beautiful I don't give up easy.
Thanks for any ideas.
Josie

Hello, JosieDavis, I've read about your problem, and I think that bonsai of yours is already dead. You did the right thing by feeding it fertilizer but pruning it's roots were not a very good ideia, why don't you keep watering it for some days to see if you're lucky? Maybe It can revive.

Josie,

What kind of tree is it? Trees like junipers can't survive indoors. Being next to a heater would definately kill it quicker.
