new bonsai tree need help!

Just bought a Fukien tree and read in your forum that you shouldn't water the leaves as this kills the flowers. So how should you water the tree so that you do not kill the flowers?also read that every tree is watered differently, so what is the best way of watering this tree?

Hi,

For watering your Fukien first get used to checking the soil with a toothpick or bamboo skewer. If you pull it out and it has wet or damp soil to it then its too early to water. Fukiens tend to like to dry out between waterings. Not much mind you. Just they don't like constant wet feet. No standing water! There are 2 good ways to water, and I like to alternate between these 2.

1) over top watering, basically water is poured on the soil, draining below . Do that about 2x.
2) or you can immerse the pot into water, soaking it for a few minutes.. till the bubbles stop coming up.

I hope this helps a little.

just a note if you have moss on the soil, its better to water from the bottom. Also, the more direct light it gets, the smaller the leaves will be. Trim it often to keep it full. (although that goes for really any bonsai).
