Quick Questions: ( if these questions are answered elsewhere in the forum I am sorry I wasn't able to find them. )
1. How long after a heavy root pruning will a plant normally back bud?
2. Other than back budding is there a way to know if the plant is still trying to live?

Bewildered,
Root pruning is not going to encourage back budding. Backbudding is normally induced by a good pruning on top. Since you have done a some work, shall we say, out of season, no pruning now. Also, some plants take a break from the heat of summer so you are just going to have to wait it out.
Just today I noticed a bud on a tree I could have sworn was dead. Don't give up too soon.

Thanks Gnome for your reply I may have chosen my words wrong as I was just really not wanting the root pruning to promote back budding but that I just wanted to see new growth on my poor shocked Escallonia lol I will definitely take your advice though and wait it out and not give up on them Thanks Gnome!
