Latest Scheff Project

Hi Y'all,

So I was looking for a small bulldozer to try a 'root-over-something' with but couldn't really find anything suitable (yearning for the Tonka Toys of my childhood with the heavy weight and the sharp rusty edges and the cut fingers..... good times!). Still had 6 baby Scheffs to work with. Strolling through the mall a couple of weeks ago I came across something that I thought would work. Was labeled as a cell phone holder. Impulse buy! So here is what it looks like at the moment...

The object under all the moss is this....

And before working on it

I used 3 of the 4 Scheffs that were all together in the one container because they had some pretty good roots going. The bottom Scheff is actually sitting in the little part where the cell phone is supposed to be held. The one up from it is on the base right next to her left foot. The one on top is on her right shoulder sort of wedged into the base of the wing with the roots going down her back, right arm, and towards the middle of her... um... bodice. The top one is also wired into place for the present. I used the moss to hold everything in place because, well, I didn't have a better idea at the moment. My thinking is that, once the Scheffs get established and start growing well, then I'll stop watering the top parts of the moss and start removing it little by little. Hoping this will force the roots ever downwards towards the soil at the base. If it works... awesome. If not, well the little pots of Scheffs only cost $1.99 each so I ain't lost too much (the 'Fairy' was $8.00). Oddly enough the 2 Scheffs at the bottom seem to be struggling a bit right now while the one at the top (the important one IMO) is already starting to show some new growth. Go figger. Anyway, just wanted to see what y'all thought and whether my 'moss and de-moss' idea might work. Thanks y'all.

That looks like it will be very interesting once all the moss comes off. I can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the Out-of-the-box thinking!
