Hi Y'all,
Has anybody here done Mimosa as bonsai? I recently discovered one growing in the woods back behind the fence of my backyard. They grow like crazy around here and I was thinking about trying to harvest this one (have the owners permission). This one I'm looking at is really tall. No idea how it even managed to get growing where it did in the shade of a huge old oak. It's at least 30feet tall. Nothing but trunk until it breaks the canopy of all the other growth around it. I'll try to get some pics when/if it ever stops raining. Was thinking about doing a chop about 3 feet off the ground. Harvest next spring. Should the chop be done just straight across or more like in a 'V-shape'? Do Mimosas do good bonsai? Worth the effort? Really interested in hearing what y'all think. Thanks,
Allen
I don't know about mimosa as bonsai, a quick search on Google images turned up some results. As for a trunk chop I normally use a diagonal cut if I plan on making it an upright, but if you're going for a broom then use the v cut. I would wait though and see if anyone has any additional infor. I have no idea if mimosa will backbud easily.

Be aware, that there is also a tree that many mistake for mimosa. The way to check is if in the evening (or if handled) the leaves fold up. If they don't it's not a mimosa, but the other variety.
