Mine do well in a 5/2 combination of turface/pine bark.
You never replied to my post on your other Sagaretia question. How is the plant doing?

vmabuck,

Have you used this product? The list of ingredients seems to heavily favor organic material. Also the particle size is going to be on the small side I would imagine.

composted forest humus
earthworm castings
fine pumice

I also wonder about the practice of collecting 'forest humus' To go get a bucket full for yourself is one thing but to create a commercial product around it seems wrong.

Having a company that makes bonsai soil so I have a bit of experience with "Free Draining Bonsai Soils". I also don't have a problem recommending other soils when a person is looking for a specific quality in a soil that we may not offer.

The list of ingredients mentioned on the above product seem contradictory to free draining soil .....it is on step above potting soil and given a season it will breakdown to potting soil.

I think this maybe a better suited product for maters or marigolds

I do use this product.

I have only used it with pine trees so far but I intend to use it for other trees as well.

I do add grit and vermiculite to it for better drainage.

I use Haydite mixed with a commercial bonsai mix (Fujiama brand). I have also been happy with Joe Bonsai's "Rootopia" as the organic component.
