Other posts? What kind of bonsai? Sounds like it is actively growing, and therefore healthy.

Addendum: Ok it's a Fukien Tea, my bad. I have no experience with this type of bonsai, but I have a healthy sweet plum that has the same thing, and I just cut off the new shoots and propagate them in a container with water.

It will be more encouraging to future new growth and ramification to wait until the shoot extends by several leaves and then trim it back to 2-3 leaves. You don't want to remove all the new growth when you prune.

BEV JOHN,

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that your tree must look well groomed at all times, this is not possible. Bonsai go through an ebb and flow, well manicured at times and looking a little wild at others. A period of growth is essential for most species to maintain good health. This is also a new tree for you, correct, a Fukien Tea I believe. Don't jeopardize what could become nice specimen by acting hastily. You can always trim it later.
