White patches with black spots on juniper bark

There are white patches with black spots on the bark of my juniper on one of the larger branches, what is it and how do I treat it. Any advice would be good thanks.

fprgpt tp mention that the spots are really really tiny, like little specs. and they only cover about a quarter inch of the branch. I found them under my wiring.

It sounds like scales to me but HG or opabinia would know for sure...

Do they look like this?

no they don't. they were on pieces of bark that I looked like old bark that was shedding, and there is healthy bark uynderneath so I hope everything is fine now.

Probably sapprophitic fungus that grew on the dead bark. Not to worry...
