my bonsai first dropped its leaves and now regrowing at its

Dear sir,
I bought my bonsai this july and iam practically a novice.I don't even know what species it is. I live in uae near seacoast but it is desert area all around.I keep my bonsai outdoor for night and I think it has improved its foliage. I water its foliage at night before going to sleep with spray gun and water its roots with a glass. I also sprinkle water around its pot when I put it outdoors at night. the problem is that first its leaves started dropping then it started regrowing long shoots at its tips . these new shoots almost drop down. the leaves on previous old big branches appear to be less. however here and there some leaves are sprouting out directly from the thick branches.my question is that how should I prune my bonsai and water it and take care of it. I am also worried about its losing foliage on main trunks and developing on its tips. kindly also tell me when should I repot? and repotting means that I ve to get a new pot for it? I would also like to know what is grit and peat moss and how can u make it at home? what kind of fertilizer should I give it?
I know that I ve asked too many questions and I really want to thank u for ur time and effort in answering me.

thanks and regards,
nabegha and my bonsai's name is afnaan

nabegha,

Hello and welcome to the site. It would really help to know what species your tree is, to that end pictures would be helpful. They might also provide some clue to your problems. If you are able to post pictures please do. If you need help with this look here.

Pruning should be postponed until the plant recovers and you have a plan. There is no point pruning without a goal in mind. Re-potting should also be delayed until the plant is identified and in better health. The pot/spoil it is in now might be part of the problem but it might not be. Without more information or pictures it is hard to say. Even Fertilization can probably wait for a while but you can use any type of fertilizer intended for other potted plants, no need for specialized fertilizer. Make sure to follow the directions, more is not better.
I would also like to know what is grit and peat moss and how can u make it at home?
I see that you have been doing some reading, good. Grit is simply small rocks that helps to provide open spaces in the soil and ensure proper drainage. Think of coarse sand, not what most think of beach sand but something a little larger. Bonsai soil consists of both inorganic and organic material, look here.

I don't use Peat Moss, preferring to use bark as my organic ingredient. Some growers, especially in hot climates do use it. If you decide to, and are able to locate it, make sure to get long fiber moss not the finely milled kind. It will need to be chopped up a little more but not too finely. Orchid growers use this type of material. Look here.

There is a substitute that is apparently gaining popularity, something produced from Coconuts. I have no experience with this product but it may be an option for you.

Avoid this, it is too fine and has no texture.

Here are some tips on watering bonsai. You may not be watering it enough.

started regrowing long shoots at its tips . these new shoots almost drop down.
I'm not sure I understand but this may be due to being grown indoors during the day. If it does not receive enough light it may produce long, thin, weak shoots.

I usually suggest that growers keep their trees outside if they can but considering your climate (pretty hot with strong sun, correct?) and the fact that we don't know the species, I am a little reluctant. Can you provide a spot outside that is partly shaded, especially during the hottest part of the day? Does anyone in your area use a product called shade cloth? It is a fairly open material that comes in different grades. it provides shelter from the sun for delicate plants, many growers in hot climates use it.

however here and there some leaves are sprouting out directly from the thick branches.
This is very good, encourage these and do not remove them. The plant is trying to recover and new foliage is needed. Also, they may provide you with styling options later.
