MY JUNIPER IS LOOKING TOO BROWN, CAN SOMEONE HELP?

Mon Aug 10, 2009 5:39 am

Hello I am new to Bonsai trees. I got mine about a month ago and everything was fine, but about a week ago it started to turn really brown. I water it every day until it drains. Most of the time it is indoors, I leave it outside for about 3 hours every other 2 days. It has the same soil I bought it with and as far as the fertilizer it looks like little rocks (white, black, and grey). Any suggestions?

Thanks!!! in advance for all of your help.

jlfuentes07,

Hi, sorry I overlooked your post. Are the pebbles on the soil loose or are they a solid mass of glued together rocks? Either way I think I would remove them. If they are glued down they are causing you trouble. Even if they are loose they make it more difficult to judge the soil and to know when to water it. If by some chance the mix is uniform throughout then that is good but I doubt it.

If it is potted in the usual inferior potting mix then watering it every day may be too often, get back to us when you find out what is under the top dressing. Junipers really belong outside. Since you seem to able and willing to have it outside on occasion I suggest that you find a spot outside and leave it there. Junipers like full sun but considering your location and the fact that it has been indoors, a spot that is partly shaded might be prudent for now.
