Olive tree bonsai.

I was recently eating some imported Manzanilla olives from the jar (the green ones) and found a pit in one. I was wondering if I planted the seed, first of all would it grow, and second, if it did could I make it into a bonsai tree? Any help would be appreciated.

Well, the olives have most likely been preserved in a brine solution and heated to high temperatures in the process. This would denature all the proteins in the olive seed (pit) thus rendering it (for all intensive purposes) dead.

If you can find olives that are preserved in olive oil, they may germinate. Probably easier to buy some small nusary stock though.
