Based on the ideas in a previous threads, I am able to source a young Hazel tree local to me. Once I have it home what is the next step? Do I cut it down straight away or let it grow for awhile?
And..is it better to ask these questions when I have pictures to post?

Ceretrea,
Unless you wish to have a very small size bonsai young plant material will almost certainly require several years of growing out before much in the way of training can be done. It is a misconception that bonsai must be kept small from the start. Many times much larger trees are reduced to make bonsai.
