Gardenia Bonsai problems

I've had a gardenia bonsai for about a month. It gets plenty of sun and humidity in my kitchen. I keep a bowl of water near it and always water when the soil starts to feel dry. Problem: It's losing lots of leaves. Some are just old and dry but most are yellow on edges then it gets more yelliow and falls off. Please help. Thanks.
