what is the ideal Soil pH for a chinese elm?

Also what are some of the ways that you could bring up or bring down pH levels in the soil.

I like to do it naturally with biology. Fungal soils tend more towards acidic ph's and fungal soils tend to be higher carbon contents (think wood, especially evergreen needled plants). Base ph's come from more bacterial soils, which are fed by high nitrogen inputs (greens and manures). By tailoring soil components, you can match the plants needs (fungal soils being important to all trees, but especially evergreens and even more so evergreens in little pots)...
