oak saplings

My employer is giving out oak saplings for earth day. Would I be able to turn one into a bonsai

Green,

I don't work with Oak so I'll refrain from commenting on their suitability. A seedling though is going to require a long term strategy to get it to the stage where it resembles a bonsai. Can it be done from small material, absolutely. Are there other faster ways to get from point A to Point B, yes. Why not take a two pronged approach, long term with the young material while seeking other opportunities.

Possible to use, yes, though leaves are difficult to reduce, so small leaved varieties are better that larger ones. I'm working with a Virginia live oak now and I can't see having it as a tree smaller than 24", closer to 36" would probably be better.
