Air Layering

Hello...I always find your help just as so. I have a 5 month old bag with moss around the maple in my back yard. The tree is 25 + yesrs old. It has formed a nice root ball now is this fall season the best time to pot it and grow some roots? Thanks much for any info about air layering...maybe some good site I can visit about the topic?

If you are going to go into freezing temps then you must cut and pot this now; the roots won't survive otherwise. Not the best time as you'll have to keep the potted tree somewhere sheltered and above freezing until spring, but it should work.

Googling "air layering" should get you a plethora of info, and there are a few threads on the forum if memory serves. Good luck with your project...
