Damaged Branch

I am new to Bonsai - just brought home a Crype Mrytle and before I had a chance to put it in is new home - my overexcited Lab's big wagging tail damaged a branch at the trunk. It has now has a small break - not drooping or anything, but does have a small split in it. I do not want to remove the branch because of it's position and shape to the overall plant. What is best way to deal with a split like this?

Get it back together as best you can, wrap it in Raffia or something similar, and hope for the best. The wrapping may or may not be needed, but it should be done anyway to provide teh best chance of saving the branch. I have a Malphighia that I've had to do this to and the main branch that was split is still healthy and alive, growing, flowering, with no evidence of a split more than a year later.
