I have a question about cuttings.
My stupid cat chewed a branch off my bansai. the branch has lots of good leaves on it and is green and healthy. and my girlfriend wants to try to put it in water and see if it grows... is that possible? can you do that? if not is there any way to save this branch by other means?

wuzai,
It is possible to get cuttings of many species to root, although some are more difficult than others. I have had luck with keeping cuttings under glass or some other method to keep humidity up. Use whatever potting soil you have on hand and locate a glass jar or two liter pop bottle. Saturate the soil, insert the cutting and enclose the pot inside the humidity chamber.
I make a clean cut with a razor blade and dip cuttings in rooting hormone. The hormone is not strictly necessary and is not a 'magic bullet' it does increase your success rate though.
These links should help:

What species is it?
