Hi Bonsai people,
I recently bought my first bonsai, a Chinese Elm and I have discovered after I bought it, that the trunk has been chopped off at the top, it has a nice array of leaves but the trunk has been cut I think to stop it growing. Will my bonsai ever grow upwards again??????????????????????
It is only 6 years old !
PLease HELP!

That is a common practice in creating a bonsai from a deciduous tree; your tree was probably field grown and then chopped, sprouted and potted. You really don't want the apical growth you once had; bonsai is about maintaining a miniature form, not growing a fullsized tree. Select a branch to become your new leader and train it that way, keepingt in mind if the top becomes to dominant again, you will have a tree and not a bonsai...
