My Bonsai makes me nervous

Hello everyone! I just read through the forums and there's some excellent help here, I'm glad I found this site. Attached are pictures of my Bonsai that I got for my birthday last year. I will have had this tree for a year in about 12 days. I use fertilizer sticks, but am stopping that now because I read on here that I need to give it a dormant period. The tree is always growing and looking generally healthy, but sometimes the leaves turn yellow and fall off. I'm not sure why, I added a grow lamp to help during these winter months. Also, I do not know what type of tree it is. Finally, should I try to keep it outside more? It gets very cold and windy, and the highs during the day are never breaking 45 at this time of year. I would say, find a cool, well ventilated place that recieves a lot of light. Your grow light was a good idea.

It's a beautiful little tree. I'm not totally sure that I know what species it is though, to me it looks like it might be a ficus, though I don't really know.
