Hi Herb
I have moved to Tokyo last Denmber. there is temple,Honryuji near my home. Honryu ji has enkianthus hedge and stand alone 7 feet tall cloud shape branched tree form.
enkianthus is easy to transplant. Japanese call it Dodan tsutsuji. tsutsuji means azalea.
Tsutsuji and satsuki both called azlea in western botanical world. Japanese horticlturlist distenguish between satsuki, tsutsuji and azalea.
As we know, dodantsutsuji/enkianthus is not belong same family of azlea.
We trim off roots cut by pruner. shavel smashs end of roots which may slow down new, healthy roots development. yama
