Elephant Garlic

I like to plant some Elephant Garlic for the blooms. They are quite impressive.

For eating, I prefer the hardneck garlic. It has better flavor.

I have about 100 elephant garlic planted for about 5 months now, along with some Red Chesnok in my raised bed. Huge difference in the foliage of the two with the Elephant Garlic being much larger and more vigorous. No flowering yet but I imagine it won't be long.

Those blooms are impressive. Can you eat elephant garlic?

Yes you can. It just doesn't have quite the flavor of some other garlic varieties. It is much milder. The heads do get huge, hence the name. I've had cloves of elephant garlic get so big it would take 3-4 cloves of regular garlic to make the same amount.

I've eaten elephant garlic, it is a lot milder. I did try to plant it but it did not get nearly as big as yours. :P
