What bug is this?

Hi,
I have a spring onion plant growing in a hanging basket and just recently I noticed little black bugs on it, what are they? and how can I get rid of them?

If they look like these (and they do)

they're black aphids. You can hit them with a spray from your garden hose and knock them off. They get confused and don't return!

or spray them with a soapy water solution (soap not detergent, which can be harmful to the plant). Or if they are aphids (what I was thinking too), they are slow and stupid and just sit there and let you squish them. Just squish them with a paper towel or kleenex. I have a few plants that get covered with aphids in the spring. I squish most of the aphids off them (leaving some for the ladybugs, a few won't hurt the plant, an infestation will). The aphids do not come back for the rest of the season.
