Broken pepper

We planted some peppers and tomatoes in half barrels. After a week or so one pepper, a cherry bomb, was broken off right at dirt line. We blamed high winds and replaced it. Now, a few days later, the new one, in the same barrel, at the same spot, is broken, at the same angle! Everything else is fine. Any experiences with this?

If they are yound plants. Cut worms will cut them off at the dirt line. If these are young seedlings. Making a collar fro a cup or a toilet paper roll should stop that. Make sure the bottom of the roll extends at least an inch into the ground. Cutworms are larvae of moths. The moths lay their eggs near the seedling and the hungry worms come out of the soil at night and eats through the stems of young seedlings.

Get larger plants for that barrel, the larvae only cause problems for young, tender plants.

Thank you! I bet that is it. Can anything that can be done to get rid of the worms before beans start to come up in the bed next door?
