I'm in 7B (South Maryland). I feel like sewing some seeds intermixed in the forest around my new house just to buy some time while I am waiting to get my veggie garden going.
Any ideas for some dramatic or unique or hardy types of flowers that might do well on their own scattered around?

Hello MikeFIT, there are flower seeds for shade that one can purchase from Menards. But even that requires some ground preparation,as of clearing out debri before sowing seeds and many suggest fall sowing.
For unique types, that would be in the eye of the beholder... for both unique and hardy one may concider foamflower, pulmonaria, hosta, coral bells, you can contact a nursery in your area to give you tips on care
