stems and leaves turning dark red

We just bought our house and are not very experienced at planting flowers or plants. But we decided to plant some hybrid tea roses around the front entrance. We planted them and fed them, everything seemed fine. The buds came but some looked almost black almost like they were burnt. The first rose opened but by the second day was looking pretty dead (ends of flowers turning black and turning in). We were weeding and mulching the area when I noticed little green bugs on the new buds. We researched and found out they were Aphids. Used a rose bug spray and they are now dead. BUT some of the stems and leaves on some other plants are turning a dark red almost burgundy. The green stems on the bushes have buds but the ones that have turned burgundy have none. Is this red stem and leaves the result of the aphids? Or should we cut these stems back to where they are green?? Any help would be appreciated I can take a photo and submit it,but hopefully this is a pretty normal question!! :D thanks and I am glad I found this Forum!! :D

You might have burnt the new growth with the pesticide spray you used. Never spray during day time as the sunlight might burnt the plant. The best time is after sunset.

Aphids are rose growers common enemies. They attack roses' new growth in Spring and suck the roses dry and deforming new buds. Aphids have very soft body, therefore 1 o 2 tsp of bio degradable dish detergent into 500ml of water with a spray to splash them off on the affected rose will actually do a very good job by killing them too, and not harming the roses like chemical sprays. DO NOT trash them with your hands as their hormones will attract more aphids. Get rid of the aphids quickly or else the ants will arrive sooner than you can imagine.

I cannot advise much on how to prune your roses as I do not know which region or climate condition you are in. If you see any dead stem or drying stem, you can cut back. Make sure your cutter is clean and sharp. The cut should be at 45degree. For more information, you can refer to the below link.

Hope it helps.
