Cutting Lilac Blooms

How far down the stem should I cut blooms to ensure that my lilac will continue blooming all summer?

Lilacs won't bloom all summer. They bloom late spring into early June. Cut blooms off as they fade. Cut down the stem to the first outside leaf. Cutting off faded blooms directs enery to producing bud set for next years blooms.
