So curious - what's that hedge in LA?

This is a screenshot taken from an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles

I was so intrigued by those hedges. You can see from the imperfect one on the left side that they look like some kind of grass or bamboo? Does anyone know what kind of plant they are?

My guess is horsetail reed. It is one of those things that can easily become a weed if it gets out of control. It is good around ponds and water gardens since it can be submerged. It needs to be contained.

Ha. We've talked about this plant on the forum before (weedy, invasive, use for scouring, etc.), but I didn't recognize it as a poshed up architectural-looking plant and urban/modern landscape feature.

Now that I know what to search for, I'm finding all kinds of variations including artificial ones -- just not part of the typical in my part of the world. Thanks, imafan. :wink:
