Weedy plant with purple flower

I've looked at so many images of weeds with purple flowers, I'm turning into to an eggplant. Does anyone recognize this weed I found by the road?

I know I'm talking to myself, but that's OK. Now I wonder if it's afalfa, Medicago sativa.

I've made up my mind that the above is alfalfa.

...it is not snapdragon...
...more possible that is some kind of Vicia variety...

No, I realized after I posted that it wasn't snapdragons. I'm not sure about Vicia, either. If you notice, the leaves look more like clover or medick leaves, than vetch. But the flowers certainly do resemble Vicia. The best guess I've come up with is alfalfa.
