First Outdoor Grow

Gathering items for first attempt and outdoor Hydro grow. Have grown a lot of Veggies in containers over the years with mixed results. Tomatoes, beans and peppers have always been successful, but not so much with squash, cucumber or a few others. Hopefully I will have better luck with those with Hydro.

A good gardener is said to have a green thumb. Would a Hydroponic gardener have a blue thumb? :-() :>

I worked with cucumber in aquaponics. The ones grown in 3 gallon containers did not do as well as the ones grown in 15 gallon dutch buckets. They needed the room for their large root systems.

I hope the size of the container is different with the variety. 5 gal is the biggest I'm going to use.

Meanwhile, collecting pieces & parts.....

Try the squash, cucumbers and tomatoes in dutch buckets. They have extensive root systems and the vines need support. We had to grow tomatoes and cucumbers in shade houses not for the shade but for the bug netting otherwise the birds and worms spoil a lot of the fruit. Squash was less of a problem we just cover the fruit with paper, paint, or tuille sacks when they are small.

Started on the stand for the buckets. Hope to have most everything put together by April 1st.

Finally nice weather....

Tomato plants started indoors in late March are doing great. Recently added air pump and they love it.

Zucchini is doing great except I didn't take it out of the peat pod before putting it outside  It's wobbly so I had to prop it up and tie it off. STUPID

Peppers aren't doing as well....I didn't let the roots get long enough to reach the water at the bottom of the Dutch buckets. I added paint strainer bags with perlite in hopes that it gives more water to the roots.
