Rocks and Moss makes it hard to know if bonsai soil is dry

I just got a bonsai tree. When I got it noticed that there are rocks and like a moss on the top of the soil. Its making it hard for me too see if the soil is dry so I can keep it watered. Do I remove them, they look like hey are glued

Remove the glued rocks immediately. They have absolutely no purpose at all for the tree other than making it 'look nice'. After you remove the rocks, you can check the soil.

Please let me echo Justin's plea.

Added or glued on rocks, are a conveinience for nurseries to ship with.

If you leave them on, your tree will surely fail.

This time of year in North america just about all trees should be out doors in sun and fresh air.

I have seen the glued rocks a few times in the store, which is why I have never bought one with them.

How in the world do you get those glued rocks off, anyhow?

A screwdriver and some elbow grease seems to do the trick.
