help my Gardenia Bonsai is dying!

My Gardenia Bonsai is dying.We cleaned the roots and now all the Leaves are gone and he is all brown.It was a gift from my Husband and I don't know what to do.Please can anyone help me.Thank you so much

Don't be surprised if you lose it. It is very difficult kind of bonsai to keep alive that's better kept in a green house all year round IMHO.
