Mixed adjacent sizes

This is typical of my veggie garden results; one or two good size plants among a lot of poor ones. Why would this happen?

I get that too. At least yours are much bigger than mine.

I’ve often wondered if seeds are graded by size into premium and regular quality. Maybe there could be that kind of difference in seed quality. Also, in the case of turnips, there could be a stray or accidental cross among the seeds since you only get one per seed.

My father use to grow turnips he had a variety of different sizes too. I have never grown turnips.
