Only one side of my strawberries ripen, why?

My strawberry plant is still pretty small, but is producing strawberries. The problem is only one side of the strawberries ripen. The side of the strawberries that are touching the dirt does not ripen, but the other side of the strawberry will. How can I fix that?

Strawberries ripen first on the side exposed to light. I think if you wait a little longer the other side should ripen as well.

It helps, too, to tuck some clean dry straw underneath so they are not in contact with dirt.
