Short squash!

My yellow squash (probably not the correct name) didn't grow long. They just look like softballs and all 6 plants did it! does anyone have a clue why they would do this?

I know there's an "8-Ball" variety of zucchini; photo at https://www.localharvest.org/8-ball-zucchini-squash-plants-C8578 .

There may be a similar variety for yellow squash, too...

No these were supposed to be the long ones I still have the package out on the stick next to them. I too thought that and checked it out but it seems like they just mutated, so to speak.... kinda like corn when it doesn't pollenate correctly. Is this possible with squash as well?
