I'll be honest I'm by no means an expert but I see no real problem with them. If they don't make it then I don't think mine will either.

They look good.

I like to thin my lettuce so I get a nice head. Yes, even with the leafy varieties. One plant per 8 to 10 inches. Lettuce can be transplanted too. It slows it down for a few days, but that is ok as it will spread out the harvest.

Cabbage needs room too. 18 inches between plants is good.

Have a great garden!

I have some nappa cabbage out and bok choy out so far, and some brocolli and they are just being beaten up by this wind, gust to 30 mph. I don't know if they are going to survive. I placed a 32 OZ yogurt cup over a lot of them, thought this might help? Does anyone else do this?

Yeah, I hate the wind. Tomorrow is even better, weather.com states 25-35 mph with gusts of over 40 mph. I guess thats why we are in a "wind advisory". It was 30 mph today with gusts over 35...ugh....can't wait until this is over.

wind is gone but last night we had a cool chill this really sucks. Not good for my babies. :( We also noticed that the sprinklers have been coming on at night which is a nono that would explain frost bitten leaves I am so upset at myself for not double checking them

Both lettuce and cabbage are quite frost resistant. A light frost is not going to hurt them. As far as the sprinkler system coming on, it actually helps to protect plants from freezing if they are wet . The water has to give off lots of heat before it can freeze.

Cabbage will form a good solid head in time. It will depend on the variety, just how soon it makes a head. Then is the time to harvest.

Lettuce leaves can be picked at any time, or you can harvest some whole plants to thin the plants out so those left have more room to grow. If given the room and time, lettuce will make a nice head. If it is leaf lettuce you will get a nice head of leaves, If it is a head type like iceburg, you will get a more solid head.

This is a head of Black-seeded Simpson lettuce. Yes, this is one plant. When you harvest a head like this, just take the whole plant.
