Can I Save Finished Compost in a Sealed Container?

hello,

I made my own compost barrel and built a frame to spin it. question : after this batch is done which is almost done, can I put it in a a another plastic trash can with NO holes and that has a sealed lid? how long will it keep?

If I wait to use it next spring should I mix it in with new stuff that I make next year? The reason is we are going to be moving soon and I don't think we will be putting in a garden this year. We might for a winter crop maybe. thanks

short answer: no

question: why even think about going there?

compost, raw, semi / sorta' / fully 'done' is not a dead inert substance. put it in a sealed up bag, you'll get a stinky goop in short order.

Just use it on something. I am sure you have a flower garden bed, shrubs, trees etc. It won't get any better by keeping, and could be a disaster when moving, and the usual one-more-thing to try to move.

There's always more compost around the corner. Use it there rather than moving it, and you'll earn valuable karma points. 8)
