Growing Japanese Shiso

Has anyone had any luck growing Perilla Frutescens or Shiso as it's more commonly known?

I'll be in the good books with my Japanese wife for years to come if I can get a good plant established!

They grow like weed. They're better somewhat shaded so the leaves don't toughen up, but are extremely drought tolerant, and will re-seed (boy do they re-seed!) every year, so let some GO TO SEED, and pick your location wisely.

Considering they are planted in a pot on my balcony I don't think will be much of a problem. don't think they’ll get much of a chance to toughen up either with the wife knocking them back like gum drops. For a supposed weed they sure seem to be taking an awfully long time to germinate……
