Catnip planting

I tried to start catnip from seed when I planted my spearmint. I have about 15 baby spearmint and 0 catnip. I restarted in a new setup. I have potting soil in a plastic lunch meat container with the lid on, in my kitchen windowsill(good sunlight spot). Should I move it to a shadier window or do anything different?

I generally keep my seed sprouting containers in bright indirect light, but out of direct sunlight, especially if I have covered them with glass or plastic. When light energy passes through glass, a certain amount is converted to heat energy. I don't know it for a fact, but I imagine some light would convert to heat when passing through clear plastic, as well. In my experience, bottom heat is sometimes helpful when sprouting seeds, but not heat on the top surface of the soil. JMO. :)

I have 6 catnip sprouts, and I'm very excited but not as excited as him.

I had the same problems! I went through a whole package of catnip seeds and couldn't get any to grow. What did you end up doing to get it to sprout?

Just remember catnip outdoors will also attract skunks :). Lucky kitty!

I just used a GLAD plastic container and put it in a windowsill. My cat's name is Rascal.

I just planted some a few days ago and I'm getting a few sprouts. I started it in a seed starting "greenhouse" type thing, a glad container would work well too. I did it in indirect sunlight and now I moved the whole thing to a sunny window. I will tell you though it was one of my last sprouts to come up, so maybe it just needs a little time. I have read that it needs full sun so maybe it's one of the last to come up because I finally put it in direct sunlight today though!
