New Crabapple from DaSu Bonsai

$76 Crabapple stock... progression.

Holy Moss, Batman!

Moss off.

Pretty nice roots, but not what the moss hinted at.

This eventually became the back.

Took about an hour to remove this fat trunk that was screaming to create an awful reverse taper. It was, literally wedged between the branches on either side. I used a trunk splitter and then an XActo knife to clean up.

After a much needed haircut.

Current plan.

You seem to know a good selection of websites for good bonsai material. I came to this thread, and was like, "another good bonsai website to buy things from!"

By the way, that tree looks promising. Will look forward to it's development!

Thanks... the first trunk segment is really too long, with way too much going on above it. And it's WAY too straight for anything but a broom or modification thereof right now. Probably greenhouse, grown, post-pruning this tree went semi-dormant, with the leaves turning bright red. I don't think "Indian Summer" Crabs are supposed to do this until fall. New growth coming in is also red, but too youg to see whether or not I'll get a "second spring" (repeat flowering) out of it. Can't wait for those pink flowers amd red apples next year, though.
