About a year ago my neighbor gave us two potted plants. My wife and I have been watering them once every 2-3 days, and they are kept on our deck and only get direct sunlight in the afternoons.
We Live in San Diego, about 2 miles from the ocean and have very mild weather for most of the year.
I would like to know if anyone knows what kind of plants these are and what we need to do to keep the leaves from getting brown (note pictures).
Thanks in advance for any input you can provide!

Thank you so much for the info. Know that I know what they are I can check around and see about getting more onfo on the proper care of them. thanks!meesh wrote:They are Dracaena plants. The browning on the tips of the leaves is from overwatering, they like to be on the dry side.
EDIT:
Does anyone know what the exact specim of Dracaena this is? Upon doing more searching I have found a number of of them includeding the Dracaena Massangeana, Corn plant. I want to be sure to find the correct info on watering and light for this plant.
Thanks!
I would let it nearly dry out. I had one in FL that did beautifully - because it was seldom watered. It was even in a pot too small for it. Seems crazy. It was a good tough plant too - it survived 2 puppies in their "oh, dirt - in the house!" phases.
(only people with dogs can truly appreciate what it means to spend days teaching a puppy that she should not carry dirt around the house in her mouth. Or at all. Poor plant.)
I don't know what subspecies it is though.

I have my own website and host my pictures from there, but if you have some digital pictures you can use photobucket.com or imageshack.com to host your pictures for you for free. They will even provide you with the coding you need to cut and paste into your post to make the pictures display in the topic.ladysage79 wrote:I'm new to the forum, can you tell me how you included those pictures. good luck!
