Rain and Tomatoes...
How do I keep the dirt from splashing up on the leaves of my plants? And is it a bad thing that this happens?

It's a good idea to prevent it, if you can. The soil carries bacteria that can damage tomato leaves, and can spread fungi.
The easiest way to prevent soil splashing is to mulch around the base of your tomatoes. That can also help keep moisture in.
If you don't choose to mulch, trimming the bottom branches off your tomatoes will help keep splashing mud from reaching the leaves, and won't hurt the plant any.
Also, when you water, try to water from as close to the ground as possible, and without using high-pressure water systems (like hose sprayers, etc).
