mini tomatoes

although I am a cook by trade, I currently work at a grocery store... I noticed in the produce section these mini red tomatoes (and in other packages orange yellow) - mini tomatoes...

I never knew what these were properly called.. anyone know? they're like the size of a nickle or so.. I never used them in any restaurants I've worked in so I'm clueless as to the name.

Sounds like what I call grape tomatoes. I don't know if you were looking for a specific variety name?

Could they be Micro Tomatoes? I know I used to grow them when I was younger. I don't know if they have any other names, we just called them Micro tomatoes. The plants stayed pretty tiny and the tomatoes were at the most about 1 inch.

TZ sent me some seeds for Hawaiian Currant tomatoes. When I looked them up, I noticed several related "currants": all super tiny tomatoes.

It is difficult to ID grape or cherry tomatoes. So many varieties go under this common name. Maybe describing the taste could narrow it down some.

Translucent/orange colored, commercial variety, hybrid... "ZIMA", if translated from Russian, means "Winter"... Here, in the US it is offered by a company Sunset, same company that offers tomato "Kumato" and "Campari" varieties.

From all the commercial varieties sold in grocery stores, these three are definitely worthy buying when your own tomatoes are not in season.

Keep in mind, that what you will get from those F2 seeds harvested from these fruits may not at all be what the actual Zima is (since it is a hybrid). But at the same time, may actually be fun, just to see what you get
